Conditions treated
Intravitreal injections may be recommended for wet AMD, diabetic macular oedema and retinal swelling caused by retinal vein occlusions. The medicine chosen depends on the condition and how the eye responds.
OVERVIEW
Eye injections are used to treat retinal conditions including wet macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema and swelling caused by retinal vein occlusions.
Many retinal conditions need a series of injections because the medicine's effect reduces over time. Examination and OCT scans help guide the medicine used and the interval between treatments.
SYMPTOMS
TREATMENT
Intravitreal injections may be recommended for wet AMD, diabetic macular oedema and retinal swelling caused by retinal vein occlusions. The medicine chosen depends on the condition and how the eye responds.
Some conditions need a series of injections followed by treatment at intervals based on examination and OCT scans. Your clinician will explain the plan and adjust it over time.
Mild grittiness, a red patch or small floaters can occur. Follow the aftercare instructions and contact the clinic urgently for increasing pain, worsening redness, light sensitivity or a marked drop in vision.
